Our verdict

A dependable and smooth ride is now lighter and has a new jacquard mesh upper for a more adaptable fit, thanks to an updated ISO fit system. Overall, the update was needed to re address the issues surrounding the sloppy upper on version 1.

  • Positive
  • Reworked upper is a vast improvement
  • A great one shoe for all disciplines
  • Outsole flexibility allows a smooth transition
  • Negative
  • Comes in heavier than some equivalent brands shoes

First impressions

This updated model sees an improved upper which creates a better fit all around the foot. Whilst the midsole uses the same cushioning material, it's now using a different overall shape which creates a more stable ride.

The Ride is the same price of the roomier Echelon 7 within the range, both are cheaper than the Saucony Freedom 3, Freedom ISO 2 and Triumph 17 in their neutral range.

Midsole

PWRFOAM delivers a really plush and comfortable ride and the overall balance of the shoe is excellent. It's light and very supple or flexible underfoot but there is plenty of cushioning for a longer run here. It's far from the maximal cushioning segment (such as Hoka's) but that isn't the idea here, this is a brilliantly cushioned fast feeling running shoe without the bulk.

There is a sweet spot that some shoes reach between a racer trainer and everyday shoe and the ISO RIDE 2 and Nike Pegasus are two of the best on the market at this pricepoint.

Upper

A new and improved upper creates an instantly comfortable fit.

Some 3D printed overlays offer an element of support and some nice graphics but don't cause any issues with overlays rubbing, and the laces have an amazing stretch to them delivering a really nice adjustable fit when your feet swell on a run; a cool touch that Saucony offers and I have no idea why more brands don't copy!

Sole

Crystal Rubber sole for additional durability, traction, and good flexibility.

The grip is greatly improved over a variety of surfaces and the tread pattern offers fantastic flexibility. Up to now the outsole has been pretty hardwearing for a lightweight trainer and there are zero issues to note.

Conclusion

Straight out the box these shoes feel soft, fast and fun to wear! Don't even think about buying the Saucony ISO Ride as it's awful compared to this new version!

It's great for everyday runs, but terrible if you want to go for those slow recover runs!
