First impressions

It is the soft feel to this shoe that makes it an everyday contender. Yes, the low-profile (4mm heel to toe drop) means it has a racier feel, but that comfort combined with a light weight and good flexibility will make it a favourite for a certain type of runner: probably one that favours getting up on their toes and generally whipping along! There is s an excellent assortment of technology to enjoy: a rock plate, rubberised toe tip and a gaiter compatible upper. Again, that will tell you exactly what this shoe is all about. Do not venture on the road in them, save them for your off-road, preferably damp adventures. The outsole is aggressive with multidirectional lugs ready to provide good grip, while the midsole is soft and responsive. The External Bedrock outsole provides good protection from the unpredictable nature of trail, while the upper also offers plenty of protection in the form of a tightly knitted mesh which keeps debris out and neat touches like the gusset tongue. At 302g, this shoe is also pretty light. This is an everyday shoe in that it must be treated to mud regularly, and at pace.

Midsole

The midsole of the Saucony Peregrine 7 Features Saucony's external heel support, this provides better impact protection and shock attenuation that sets the foot up for an efficient transition through the gait cycle with guided alignment. Additionally, the heel support provides a lockdown fit and provides sufficient hold to ensure you're comfortable at all times. The new Peregrine 7 features a 4mm heel-to-toe drop offering a more natural, close to ground feel. On technical trails, this low heel-to-toe drop encourages an agile and natural transition while running. True to its promise, the Saucony Peregrine 7 provide adequate, yet firm cushioning that covers the full length of the midsole reducing any pressure forced upon the wearer's feet. When running on tricky surfaces, you would be protected against ground irregularities sufficiently. The highly flexible midsole allows you to adapt to uneven surfaces giving you the advantage no matter what.

Upper

The Saucony Peregrine 7 features a closed mesh synthetic upper that is combined with a webbing of synthetic Flexifilm overlays for a supportive and breathable fit. RunDRY technology utilised on the inner lining of the shoe ensures a cool and dry environment to eliminate the risk of skin irritation. In addition, it has a gusseted tongue to help keep out detritus and oval laces for easy adjustments. At the back of the upper, you can observe the well-padded heel collar, which guarantees better mobility and less irritation, while promoting the proper support.

Sole

The outsole of the Saucony Peregrine 7 also has overwhelming tread style. The product's PWRTRAC outsole features diamond formation lugs with depth and ridges made of High Traction carbon Rubber. This type of material is said to be harder than most rubbers on the market. This offers better traction on the heelstrike and rearfoot strike respectively on both dry and wet environments, thereby highlighting its versatility in variable conditions and terrains.

Conclusion

The Peregrine 7's is a very comfortable, fast-feeling low riding off-roader. The grip It is very competent on a wide variety of terrain and its light weight makes it a great competition shoe.

The Peregrine 7 won Best Buy in the Runner's World 2017 shoe awards.
