A range topping support shoe with a highly responsive, 'energy-return' midsole.
More responsive than previous versions and almost falling into a catagory of supportive racing shoe, such is the flexible nature of the ride.
A great shoe, but it's trying too hard to be many things. It wants to be very responsive, very supportive and highly cushioned, ultimately it falls down on the support. The soft, flexible nature of the PWRRUN+ just doesn't lend itself (in this form) to being stable enough for over-pronators.
Lighter than the previous model, the overall feel remains very similar.
The PWRRUN+ midsole is soft, responsive and very flexible; so much so that the medial post has to keep it stable before it tries to correct over-pronation.
The Hurricane is Saucony's premium stability shoe sitting above the Saucony Omni ISO 2 and the Saucony Guide 13.
The PWRRUN+ midsole is a TPU bead based material (similar to Boost) but now 25% lighter than previous versions. With that reduction in weight is a slight lack of stability and so the medial post needs to work extra hard to keep the overall feel of the shoe in check, rather than simply taking care of over-pronation.
As a resposonsive, durable high mileage trainer, it works, but only with mild support.
Like most Saucony shoes, the upper is great. Lessons learned in recent years have produced soft, plush and neatly padded uppers than fit well, remaining breathable and comfortable in the long run.
A durable rubber outsole gives suprising traction and duribility given that it is so low profile. It's flexible too, so keeps the responsive feel of the forefoot functioning.
There's no doubt this is a good shoe, it's just that as a premium support shoe it doesn't offer quite enough stability or control. The use of the PWRRUN+ keeps it feeling highly responsive but at the cost of stability. The medial post serves mostly to keep an otherwise very flexible shoe a little less flexible and so, more stable.
That said, the shoe feels nice, smooth riding cushioning and a responsive feel from the (Boost-like) midsole.
The fit is great too, but ultimately given the shoes weight and price, it's a shoe that is trying to offer too many things.
PWRRUN+ is a full-length responsive cushioning compound that provides a springy and responsive underfoot feel.
Medial TPU Guidance Frame uses a firm plastic piece on the inside of the shoe to help prevent overpronation.
Tri-Flex Crystal Rubber helps increase flexibility, adaptability, and durability of the shoe.
Engineered Jacquard mesh comprises the upper, updated to flex more naturally with the foot while providing lightweight breathability.
FORMFIT Contoured Footbed creates a cradle for your foot that provides added guidance and support
