First impressions

This is a shoe built with the urban athlete in mind; someone who has to run on the road, but given the chance will get off of it as soon as possible. Fit is always a strong point when it comes to Salomon shoes and this model is no different. The Endofit sleeve encases your foot, just like a sock, while the Ripstop Fabric upper provides all the stability you’ll need. Underfoot the X-Series sole does a similar job in terms of stability meaning you’ll enjoy a smooth ride on the road but can switch mid-run to venturing off. The grip – Contagrip – is fine for all but the nastiest conditions, none of which the average urban athlete will encounter so unless you plan a day of fell running in the wettest February ever, this shoe will be perfectly at home!

Midsole

Offering supportive comfort whilst retaining a lightweight embodiment the midsole of the S-Lab Sonic Trail utilises Salomon's proprietary lightweight EnergyCell+ compound. The midsole foam offers soft landings, long responsive rebounds and full underfoot protection that prevents medial collapse while also offering key cushioning and gait cycle transitioning. The format assists with keeping weight down and maximising responsive underfoot cushioning for superior cushioning, stability, and motion control. Add a ProFeel Film insert, a TPU layer between the midsole and insole for added support and protection from rough trail running.

Internally the S-Lab Sonic Trail sports a Die cut EVA insole, this specific cushioning compound provides superior step in comfort and It will not break down or lose effectiveness over time. The EVA allows for a better support and added cushioning out on the trail.

Upper

Enveloping the foot with support and comfort, the S-Lab Sonic Trail employs varying technologies to offer the best fit possible. Single layer open air mesh combined with nylon layer allows extreme breathability and top abrasion resistance. This actively works by letting fresh air permeate the interior to keep the foot cool and refreshed while also wicking sweat moisture away from the surface of the skin.

Externally it features Sensifit technology - a system that Wraps to the foot with a precise and secure fit, Sensifit™ cradles the foot from the midsole to the lace system, providing a stable, precise, snug fit all around the system. Moulded into the shoe, reducing weight and brings more comfort. Working in unison, EndoFit Security and Precision engineering is a Salomon exclusive technology comprising of an internal fit sleeve designed to hug the forefoot and improve feedback and foot wrapping.

The Combination Racing Last is observed in the Salomon S-Lab Sonic Trail upper. It makes use of a fiber board, which is located in the rear of the shoe. The board promotes additional stability. The Last is extended to the forefoot in a slip manner. It does not add to the weight of the shoe, but adds more flexibility in the upper.

Sole

The Dynamic Traction is located in the shoe’s outsole. It is characterized by offset lugs that are set deep on the undersurface. It provides exceptional grip on both hard and wet terrains. It can also be used on loose surfaces, which proves its versatility on any type of terrain.

The Salomon S-Lab Sonic uses its Contagrip grip patter which works exceptionally well.

Conclusion

A shoe that will cover all bases but will not compromise on performance as it does so.
