Put simply, you are paying a lot of money for a thin piece of the Pebax foam found in these shoes. Yes its lighter, and yes its more responsive but there just isn't the value in this shoe to justifly the extra cost from the inline Pegasus 36 or trading over to a Nike Zoom Fly with carbon plate for speed.

Our verdict

It's just all a bit pointless at the end of the day... Buy a Pegasus 36 and save yourself a fortune, or buy a Nike Zoom Fly and benefit from a carbon plate... This shoe is sitting in a hole created by brands who like to create shoes for no real reason - and there is definitely no real reason for the Pegasus Turbo 2! That said, its a wonderful shoe on foot!

  • Positive
  • Fast feeling
  • Highly responsive
  • Really light for a high mileage training shoe
  • Negative
  • Crazy increase in price over the Pegasus 36
  • Why not just buy a Nike Zoom Fly with carbon plate
  • Upper is stiffer than the inline Nike Pegasus 26

First impressions

Holy crap these are light!! Looks like a Zoom Pegasus 36, feels like a Pegasus 36.... But they are so light it's unreal! Then you see the price tag.

Pebax foam (nike brand it Zoom X) is more expensive at source, like Boost is expensive from BASF, but considering the line up of amazing lightweight shoes Nike has in its roster right now, what is the point of this shoe?

It's not as quick as a Zoom Fly 3 and it's not as durable as a Pegasus - so why the heck would you buy it - that is the reality!

The Pegasus Turbo 2 sits towards the top of Nike's neutral shoe offering. The bouncy Nike Joyride is the same price, the Nike React Infinity Run Flyknit offers a brilliant reactive ride and below that come a couple of classic everyday shoes: the Nike Zoom Vomero 14, and the Zoom Pegasus 36.

Midsole

Oh the shoe feels good on - it's soft, really responsive and incredibly light... BUT, it is not that much more special than the Pegaus 36 and certainly not 50% better as the price tag suggests.

Then it lacks the snap of the carbon plated Zoom Fly so it is really in a strange place as far as product ranges sit.

Upper

The nylon finish on the upper makes it slightly stiff and it wrinkles in all the wrong places - which in turn has caused some real upper durability issues - it's a big miss on Nike's side and obviously it wasn't tested as much as some other shoes...

Seamless and supportive - as it's a Pegasus, but the material leaves a little to be desired and not sure the minimal weight saving was worth it at all...

Sole

Far thinner and more cored out than the inline Pegasus so there is a compromise on the durability but its like that for a reason as it all helps deliver a fantastically light running shoe..

Conclusion

A quality bit of engineering but I can't help but feel there are much more relevant and suitable shoes for any occasion elsewhere in the Nike range...
