Our verdict

For those that don't want to spend the big money on the top end Alphafly and Next% shoes, this model combines the Carbon plate technology in a more useable, everyday shoe. It's still light enough to race in, but should stand up to daily miles at the same time.

First impressions

A more everyday version of the highly popular Next% racer. The use of the React foam allows enough response when combined with the carbon plate to give an energised feel, yet remians durable enough for more regular use.

If you want a more affordable racer, consider the Air Zoom Streak 7, it's been at the heart of Nike's racing line-up for years. If you are racing over longer distances such as the marathon, don't discount the bulkier but still light, Air Zoom Pegasus Turbo 2.

React foam with a Carbon-Fibre embedded plate provides a race ready feel with the cushioning and durability of an everyday trainer. The plate stiffens up the metatarsophalangeal joints and creates a larger lever from the toe joints for increased push off.

A lightweight and breathable upper has a minimalistic design to keep the weight down, but the fit is neat and secure and actually a little neater and closer than the more expensive Next % on which the shoe is based and takes inspiration.

A rubber forefoot provides traction and two rear foot rubber pieces help to increase durability at heel strike.

The shoe aims to replicate the feel of the brands Next% shoes and their Carbon-fibre plate for that highly responsive and propulsive feel. They manage to do this to some extent and for many the feeling of extra push-off force will be enough. The React foam isn't quite as light or 'springy' as ZoomX but for everyday use it's more durable and so makes the shoe a better option for many runners.

Technical info

Nike React is soft and responsive cushioning material built to deliver a high level of shock absorption whilst retaining its original shape.

Full-length carbon fiber plate is embedded in the foam to enhance propulsion by stiffening the metatarsophalangeal joints (MTP) and increasing the area of the foot that 'pushes off'.
