A shoe that crams in technology but without adding the weight. A good looking, good performing shoe for most over pronators but neutral runners will also like these shoes. Great for daily mileage.
The Nike Zoom Air construction will be familiar to most of us so it goes without saying, this lives up to the Swoosh dream of providing comfort and performance. No, this isn’t a racing shoe – the Vomero is all about training, but at a comfortable pace thanks to the responsive nature of the technolgy employed. Look to the Saucony Triumph or Hoka Clifton for similar cushioning
Like a five star hotel, these are plush, but in a understated manner. Cushioning is magnificent but not at the expense of lightness, flexibility, nor indeed support. But unlike a five-star hotel, they do tempt you for a bit of everyday action. Looking at them quickly they’re a shoe to feel comfortable in for those steady days on the road or light trail.
So let’s see how they fare.
The Vomero has undergone some serious work and now employs Nike’s Lunarlon technology through its core to provide what it describes as lightweight, sport specific cushioning. And yes it does. This is a soft, responsive shoe that is built for shock absorption. So if you’re the type of runner who feels like their legs are getting crushed on a run, give these responsive, cushioned shoes some thought.
The outsole is also brand new with a different pattern and updated rubber compound. It’s been redesigned for better flexibility and durability.
The Vomero redesign continues with a move from the Flycable technology to a combination of that and a Flywire weave for a snug fit around the foot. Testers say it doesn’t rub as the earlier Vomero models could do for some runners. The mesh upper is great for keeping your feet cool but does suggest you should steer clear of really nasty mud and challenging off-road conditions. These are supreme on the road, but don’t like to venture anywhere else! Working from a 10mm heel to toe drop, they are easy to get on with in terms of fit and out of the box performance.
A comfort fit collar also provides nice cushioning around your ankle and the Flywire cables integrate with the laces for a snug fit.
It’s difficult to fault such a good looking, good performing shoe. The cushioning is great as is the stability – a good shoe for most pronators. But all that extra technology doesn’t mean there’s loads of extra weight to deal with. Far from it, this is a nice shoe that while is mostly for bog standard outings chatting with your mates, could deal with a fast mile or three on the road if you feel the need to open up.
How has the Vomero been for you. Let us know.
