First impressions

A real speedwork/racing type shoe that can - at a push - cope with everyday requirements. We say it's the kind of shoe you like to have in your armoury for special occasions. That low heel to toe drop can be tricky for some to get used to, so keep that in mind.

There's no arguing Gravity does what every other Newton shoe does - get you up on your toes and driving forward thanks to the highly responsive POP1 platform with an innovative new bottom for enhanced flexibility and full foot cushioning - basically it pushes you up onto your toes. Runners being runners, we all enjoy cushioning and Newton has worked hard on that offering high-rebound EVA to make sure there's plenty of shock absorption. It's a fascinating shoe to run in and we've been lucky enough to be in right at the start of the Newton evolution. So we can report additions like the biomechanical metatarsal sensor plate have helped hugely with stability and general 'feel' as you move.

Fit isn't an issue and the 4-way stretch mesh holds your foot in place. In fact, such is its flexibility, runners with wider feet will enjoy the fit. It's water resistant so ready for the elements.

Midsole

The midsole of the Distance V shoe has a EVA High-rebound compound designed to provide excellent cushioning and support to the underfoot. It also has the innovation of the Action/Reaction Technology, specifically in the forefoot and heel. Generated by the active movement of the lugs, Action/Reaction Technology creates a responsive, trampoline-like cushioning system that provides quicker bounce-back and loses less energy than a traditional foam-core running shoe.

You will also find the highly responsive POP1 in 5-lug Platform. The Prominent, powerful lugs with square corners deliver Newton's most responsive, performance ride. In the forefoot part of the midsole there is also a Biomechanical Metatarsal Sensor plate that provides sensory feedback constantly, allowing you to have full ground control.

Upper

The Distance V from Newton is composed of a well structured Engineered mesh, which is seamless and provides lightweight breathability and structure in key areas. It is comfortable and breathability is good. The 4-way Stretch Metatarsal Panels that offers the wearer a more individualized fit. Synthetic Overlays are anatomically placed to provide a secure fit and a lock down feel for the foot.

The Newton Distance V also feature's a Heel Lace Lock with Pre-Molded Heel Counter offers an improved heel fit and a snug heel lockdown and 360 degree reflectivity which offers increased visibility in low light conditions.

Strobel Last with the upper stitched to full length fabric for a comfortable underfoot feel.

Sole

The Distance V shoes SHARC Outsole consists of a high abrasion and high density rubber in a phalanges formed pattern that provides increased and enhanced floor fighting traction in both dry and wet conditions, while also conforming to the natural movements of the foot. Lastly on the outsole a Full Flex Zone with Ice lugs accommodates the splay of the foot at the propulsion stage of the gait.

Conclusion

True, the build does make it perfect for all sorts of weather conditions so therefore, a perfect everyday trainer. However, keep in mind Newton works best as part of your shoe collection - or at least for most of us it does. The theory is great and trust us, you do feel a difference but they do take time to get used to.
