A maximal cushioned shoe that's light and very stable. The overall build quality is good too, one tester said, 'It's like a very well made Hoka Clifton'.
The comparison is plain to see and given the issue and concerns HOKA often have over build quality, it's certainly worth considering. In part of New Balances large range of shoes it can become a little lost to the more well known and established models.
A lovely smooth and soft riding max cushioning shoe. High recommended.
First impressions leave you thinking that this is a lot of shoe. But given its size it's very light. Once you get moving in it, the ride is suprisingly responsive with the rocker giving more of a roll than other shoes that promote a rocker shaped midsole specifically.
If you don't need the bulk, check out two other great NB neutral shoes: the 1080 v10 and the Fresh Foam 1080 v10.
The maximal cushioning offers exceptional impact protection and with the rocker shape and forefoot stiffness it promotes a suprisingly easy roll/ride. It's also very easy to pick up the pace in - suprisingly so in fact!
The new, knitted mesh upper has a familiar feel to many of the brand's shoes in that it has a slight stretch quality to it. It wraps over the foot very well and makes this otherwise bulky shoe feel very close. There are nice touches of additional padding around the heel collar to welcome the foot and hold it securely in place.
A full ground-contact sole provides very good durability and looks like it's a single piece of sole/midsole. But don't worry, it is a more durable piece so there are no issues about wear.
For those seeking lots of cushioning and that slightly lower heel drop (4mm) the shoe remains a good choice, especially given its light weight and incredibly easy going ride.
Fresh Foam X midsole delivers a more energetic rebound than its predecessor.
Laser Engravings on the lateral landing zone soften the landing.
Flex Grooves ensure a smooth heel to toe transition.
Ground Contact Foam provides an incredibly light ride.
Heel Bevel is designed to aid in shock absorption.
Double Jacquard Mesh offers structure while remaining breathable and flexible.
Tongue Wings cradle the midfoot to secure the foot in place.
Ultra Heel reduces achilles irritation and increases comfort.
PL-4 is a running-specific last with a standard heel width, toe-box height, and forefoot width.
