New Balance is building a dedicated band of followers thanks to the Fresh Foam cushioning system. For some, the Boracay might be too soft, but for others that light forgiving ride allows for pace and comfort for most runs.

First impressions

The New Balance Fresh Foam Boracay has had adjustments to the midsole and outsole to improve heel-to-toe transition, plus a new synthetic/mesh upper hugs and supports your foot for a plush ride. For a similar experience consider the Brooks Launch 4 Running.

First Impressions? It looks and feels a bit like a racing shoe that will reward you over 10km. But be wary, even with Fresh Foam underneath, of trying anything longer. A shoe for special occasions.

Midsole

A single piece of Fresh Foam provides a soft feel under your feet. Be aware that for some, this can be a little soft, but it is very forgiving and feel like there is plenty of response in terms of energy return. There’s not huge amounts of support in this 4mm heel to toe shoe but the sole is built so there is great traction and flexibility thanks to elongated hexagonal lugs.

Upper

A comfortable, dare we say it, unremarkable fit in that it works well! The New Balance Fresh Foam Boracay features the open mesh cover that gives lightweight breathability. The synthetic overlays deliver a secure fit by wrapping the foot snugly. The traditional sock liner delivers added underfoot cushioning.

Conclusion

If pace is the name of the game for you, but you need a touch of cushioning, well the Boracay is one to consider. It’s very lightweight but forgiving when it comes to providing a bit more comfort at speed. Half marathons and most training on the road will be fine.

How was the New Balance Boracay for you? Let us know, we’d love to report your findings.
