Our verdict

The New Balance 1340 v2 is a premium, daily running, motion control shoe designed for the most severe overpronated foot motion. Also great for heavier runners.

First impressions

The New Balance 1340 v2 uses motion-control technology tosupport your stride. The 1340v2 stability running shoe for was designed for overpronators with a system of support tech and cushioning that helps you stay comfortable and in control. Take a look at the Mizuno Wave Creation 18 for a similar ride.

First Impressions? Solid looking; in fact they look just about unbreakable thanks to that post system that supplies the support. Clearly these are designed for the heavier runner who hits the ground hard.

Midsole

New Balance has been hard at work with this shoe updating a whole host of factors. Grip is the first issue we’ll take a look at. Thanks to a diamond shape outsole, trail running is now a real possibility in this shoe. It mixes Ndurance rubber in high wearing areas such as your heel with a lighter blown rubber that lends itself better to flexibility. Throw in those large diamond-shaped lugs and you have a great, solid landing area that will fill you with confidence. Often support shoes don’t enjoy trail but these are the exception. The midsole uses New Balance’s N2 cushioning which means its light and responsive while durability comes in the form of Acteva Lite that runs right through the midsole. You’ll also enjoy the full-length Abzorb foam which is included to disperse shock.

Key to this shoe is the support which uses the T-Beam (a TPU shank) that runs from the lateral to medial side. New Balance’s technology Stabilcore is in the heel to help control excessive movement in that area.

And to cap it all, the shoe works from a 10mm heel to toe drop, perfect for everyday running.

Upper

New Balance use the same technology in all of its top range running shoes in that a breathable mesh holds your foot in place, while the Ortholite Sockliner provides step-in comfort and a foot-hugging wrap. Fit is rarely an issue for New Balance.

Conclusion

Stability with the ability to mix surfaces. So, if you fancy a run in the woods but don’t want to compromise on cushioning and support, well give these shoes a spin.

How was the 1340 v2 for you? Let us know, we’d love to report your findings.
