The NB 1260 v7 offers a very comfortable, well-cushioned and stable ride. This latest version offers a marked improvement on the previous model and represents a premium, high-mileage everyday training shoe package
The New Balance sits in the NB range as their maximum support shoe, a shoe designed for those requiring a serious motion control and well-cushioned shoe. This latest version 7 provides some changes to the popular and well regarded v6.
The 1260 v7 has perhaps more cushioning than any version before with the inclusion of NB’s FuelCell foam placed on the lateral (outside) side which will give you a bit of extra ‘bounce back’. The stability is provided via a denser medial post on the inside of the midsole.
The shoe looks good and has a classy looking upper. It’s a mix of open weave mesh and a tighter, stronger looking mesh in stress areas. Some of the overlays from previous models have been stripped away for a much cleaner looking upper. They felt really comfortable on-foot and have plenty of room in the toe box area.
On the run, the shoes felt extremely comfortable offering a superb level of cushioning. For a motion control shoe, we felt that they were more flexible than most, just less bulky, which for those of us who need help, is very welcome. The addition of the FuelCell foam is extremely welcome and adds to making the ride a really smooth one. I didn’t notice the firmer medial post which is always a very good thing. The 1260 v7 is definitely a shoe that you would be very happy clocking up your daily mileage.
A full-length abzorb midsole provides the basis of the midsole with the inclusion of the FuelCell foam area which gives the runner a softer landing pad along with a good level of energy return. The dual density midsole rides well and the firmer post on the medial side of the shoe would work well for all but the most extreme over-pronator.
The lightweight upper is constructed of a full-length engineered mesh upper which offers strength and support in key areas but remains breathable, especially around the forefoot. While the upper looks clean, there are underlays within the material which helps to support the midfoot, crucial for us over-pronators.
There is an asymmetrical heel counter which feels tough and should hold your foot securely. Mine felt snug and the heel collar was well padded and added to the comfort.
The outsole has been redesigned but is functional and works well. NB’s Ndurance carbon rubber is placed in the abrasive heel area but the majority of the outsole is blown rubber which feels smooth and adds to the cushioning and comfort of the shoe. Forefoot anatomical flex grooves will ensure the forefoot remains flexible.
The 1260 v7 keeps the delivers against NB’s brief – great cushioning, comfort and support – and fans of this range will be very happy. The shoe rides extremely well, it is well cushioned, is not too heavy and will support you mile after mile.
The FuelCell addition is a very welcome upgrade and this coupled with the good looking breathable upper means that NB have produced a very nice package. Well worth of consideration.
