The latest version of the Wave Rider keeps true to the heritage that makes it a versatile everyday shoe, happy at any pace and suitable for a wide range of runners. As always, there is masses of tech in the Wave Rider - one of our favourites.
Mizuno know not to mess with this winner. It has been tried and tested for many years now so any new developments tend to be small tweaks to an already impressive shoe.
The Wave Rider has been a best-seller for years now. It's at the right price point, sitting above the Mizuno Skyrise, but below the Mizuno Sky 3 and much more expensive Mizuno Prophecy 9.
The Wave plate provides the great, durable cushioning and helps to retain a stable feel without being too stiff.
The new dual layered midsole uses the brand’s U4ic and U4icX materials which together improve upon the already smooth riding and responsive feel.
The upper is updated but remains a great fit and highly breathable, perhaps a little less volume than the brand's SKYRISE model, but a neat fit around a slimmer foot.
X10 carbon rubber features in the heel. Blown rubber in the forefoot increases cushioning and responsiveness while flex Controllers placed in high flex areas on the outsole act as miniature wave plates for increased flexibility and reduced weight.
Among our mixed group of testers, we found the Rider to excel as an everyday mileage shoe, but the heavier runners also commented that they would happily race in the shoe, finding it light but able to cope with their heavier build.
Cloudwave consists of a redesigned elastic, thermal plastic wave running from the heel to the midfoot, creating an incredibly springy and well-cushioned ride.
Smooth Ride is a gender-specific network of grooves that minimizes the rapid acceleration and deceleration of the foot to create a smooth heel to toe ride.
U4ic is a lightweight midsole that provides optimal shock absorption, improved durability, and a resilient ride.
U4icX Heel Wedge is a lighter, more cushioned version of U4ic that delivers a soft, pillowy underfoot feel for cushion upon impact.
X10 located in the heel is made of durable carbon rubber for enhanced traction.
Blown rubber in the forefoot increases cushioning and responsiveness.
Flex Controllers placed in high flex areas on the outsole act as miniature wave plates for increased flexibility and reduced weight.
Dynamotion Fit creates an optimal fit with stretch material in the forefoot and a collar construction that prevents the heel collar from buckling under load.
Dual Zone engineered mesh in the forefoot is updated to better respond to foot movements for a distraction-free fit.
Premium Anatomical Sockliner helps provide a natural fit while creating a softer feel directly beneath the foot.
U4icX Strobel Lasting board for a comfortable and cushioned underfoot feel.
