We are big fans of the Fan Wave because even for a heavy shoe like this, it does provide plenty of flexibility and response. Heavier runners will love it and runners looking for support will definitely appreciate it.

Our verdict

A good everyday shoe for a runner requiring some stability.

  • Cushioning and durability
  • Negative
  • Too inflexible
  • Could be too firm for some

First impressions

The Mizuno Wave Inspire 13 is a well-priced lightweight support shoe. It is very stable and it provides a great base to work from on the road. Take a look at the Saucony Guide 10 for something similar.

First Impressions

The Inspire guides your stride and at the same time is one of the most cushioned shoes on the market. OK, it’s definitely not light, but it is in the stability market. Everyday kind of runner? Take a look!

Midsole

Mizuno has made some minor changes to the Inspire 13, namely adding u4ic to the midsole for a touch more cushioning. The slighly lighter version is under the heel so you’ll notice a change there as well.

Working alongside all of that is Mizuno’s X10 technology and a blown rubber compound to create a flexible, grippy outsole. As is standard with Mizuno shoes, it features Flex Controllers to help with that response as you drive off.

Wave Technology comes into play at this point and it’s worth pointing out this is gender specific so produces different results for different gaits. The bottom line, however, is it all works for a smoother ride. And to cap things off, it’s all operating from a 12mm heel to toe drop, great for regular, everyday running.

Upper

The AIRmesh upper is nice and breathable and flexible. It works hand in hand with Mizuno’s Dynamotion fit which works as it sounds, offering comfort and stability as your foot moves through the natural gait. The stitched overlays add a touch more security.

Conclusion

A versatile daily training option, the Mizuno Wave Inspire 13 offers firm yet reliable cushioning for runners with a mild to moderate overpronated foot motion. A Double Fan Wave helps combat overpronation and an articulated U4icX heel wedge helps increase heel cushioning while providing a slightly softer feel compared to previous versions.

An improved mesh design further increases comfort while offering added breathability and flexibiility

Built for runners looking for an optimal blend of cushioning and support, the Mizuno Wave Inspire 13 is good for daily training over any distance.

How was the Mizuno Wave Inspire for you? Let us know, we’d love to report your findings.

Technical info

MIDSOLE

Mizuno Wave consists of an elastic, thermal plastic wave running from the heel to the midfoot, creating an incredibly springy ride with increased cushioning.

Smooth Ride is a gender specific network of grooves that minimizes the rapid acceleration and deceleration of the foot to create a smooth heel to toe ride.

U4ic is a lightweight midsole that provides optimal shock absorption, improved durability and a resilient ride.

Extended Wave Plate in the midfoot is an extension of the Mizuno Wave for increased torsional rigidity between the heel and forefoot.

Double Fan Wave provides a stable ride to reduce pronation without increased stiffness.

U4icX Heel Wedge is a lighter, more cushioned version of U4ic that delivers a soft, pillowy underfoot feel for cushion upon impact.

OUTSOLE

X10 located in the heel is made of durable carbon rubber for enhanced traction.

Blown rubber in the forefoot increases cushioning and responsiveness.

Flex Controllers placed in high flex areas on the outsole act as miniature wave plates for increased flexibility and reduced weight.

UPPER

AIRmesh covers the entire upper and provides improved flexibility and breathability to keep the foot cool.

Stitched Overlays on the medial and lateral sides help secure the foot in place.

OrthoLite Sockliner is anti-microbial and moisture wicking for a healthy foot environment.

Dynamotion Fit creates optimal fit with stretch material in the forefoot and a collar construction that prevents the heel collar from buckling under load.

U4icX Strobel Lasting board for a comfortable and cushioned underfoot feel.
