Our verdict

One of the very best motion control shoes on the market. Mizuno's statement control shoe, it comes at a price but we think it is worth it.

First impressions

The brands premium offering for those seeking maximum cushioning from a control shoe, this model, despite the premium price tag is a very tempting proposition.

With many models priced around £120, a shoe has to really stand out if it’s going to push beyond that price bracket and this is a model that really does that.

If it's tempting but just too expensive, check out Mizuno's alternative stability shoes, the Wave Inspire 16 and the Equate 4.

Midsole

With their XPOP PU foam cushioning running the full-length of the shoe you have a very definite and energetic feeling ride. Couple this with a slightly firmer layer, effectively integrated into the Wave design and you have great stability too.

To be honest, the ride is so plush and smooth you’ll hardly notice the support, but worry not, it does a very good job of providing all the control required.

Upper

An engineered mesh upper is a great example of the use of this seamless construction in a premium model and completes the premium fit and feel of this shoe.

Sole

Mizuno's usual X10 carbon adourns the forefoot and heel for durability.

Conclusion

The Wave Horizon 4 delivers maximum cushioning and control. It's a great shoe and unlike many in this category, you hardly notice the motion control elements within the shoe.
