A reasonable shoe in terms of performance and price with lots of the technical features the brand is know for included in this model. A good everyday trainer for the runner requiring some stability for over-pronation.

Our verdict

A good shoe but at a strange price point. A little more gets you a bang up to date model, whilst you can get something that performs equally well for a little less. It's still a good shoe and the manner in which the Wave control works is efficient and effective.

  • Positive
  • Good levels of control
  • Predictable and reliable support
  • Good all-rounder
  • Negative
  • Unusual price point

First impressions

An all-round, every-day training shoe. Good support from the brand's Wave plate and a neatly finished upper.

Midsole

The Mizuno Wave midsole is a dynamic system that uses the wave pattern to both cushion and control the foot.

The longer shaped wave provides a softer impact and the deep, strong wave on the medial side of the shoe firms up the midsole to control over-pronation. It works very well, particularly for heel strikes, controlling that inward roll very effectively.

The U4ic midsole foam is light and works very well in conjunction with the wave. It is perfectly balanced and offers a very smooth transition through the gait and toe-off.

Upper

A light and breathable Airmesh upper keeps the feet cool and inconjunction with well placed overlays provides a secure and supportive fit around the foot.

Sole

Best suited to the roads, the sole has a carbon rubber heel section for durability (which is excellent) and a blown rubber forefoot for a little more cushioning and flexibility.

Conclusion

Very much based on the Wave Inspire shoe from a few seasons ago, yet at a slightly lower price point, this model delivers good, effective control for most over-pronators. The Wave Plate offers a dynamic system of support and works very well, cushioning on impact and as the foot rolls inwards, firming up to control it.

It's a nicely balanced shoe in terms of weight and feels good on the foot. The upper fits well and is breathable whilst offering good support.

As is sometimes the case with this type of shoe, it sits at a tricky price point. A little less the the brands most popular shoe (Inspire) but a little more than many very good, new models from competitors.

A good performer and a solid 8 out of 10.
