An ultra-specific shoe using Graphene for increase durability. The most cushioned shoe to date from INOV-8. With Graphene in the sole and midsole as well as a new inner sole the shoe is feature packed and looks destined to be a fan favourite.
For those considering an Ultra distance event specific shoe, it’s one of the best. Cushioning is the best yet from the brand, as is the overall fit. For hard packed trail, rocky paths and even a little mud it coped very well and felt very comfortable throughout.
The most cushioned shoe in the Inov-8 line up, we've been excited to trial the G300 Max which features the world’s first Graphene-enhanced foam known as G-FLY.
Graphene mixed with the traditional midsole foam now aims to increase the durability of the cushioning and retain some of that responsive feel for longer. It’s already the highest stacked shoe from the brand at 25mm in the heel with a 6mm drop into the forefoot and with the new foam should soak up mile after mile on the often-harsh trails.
A ‘boomerang’ foam insole adds a little extra cushioning and certainly makes for a nicer step-in experience. This inner foot bed is made up of TPU beads compressed together (think adidas BOOST) and you get the idea. It’s certainly an added benefit and nice to see the attention paid to such details.
Perhaps the weakest part of the shoe; it fits well, and we’ve had no issue, but some uses report quality problems. Perhaps that could be down to individuals foot shape, so as always, we’d always say ‘try before you buy’.
If potential durability issues are a concern, perhaps consider the Kevlar upper on the new VJ shoe, the ULTRA.
We found the fit great, it’s one of the brand’s widest fitting models and allows for a little ‘breathing space’, allowing the feet to spread as the miles creep up.
At just 4mm deep, the outsole lugs don’t sound too deep, but in reality, when combined with the overall design of the sole they provide much more traction. Even on muddy ground they inspired enough confidence to maintain a good pace. When considered as an ultra-shoe, the pace will probably be a little more measured so traction really shouldn’t be an issue.
A great shoe. It is a touch on the expensive side when compared to the majority of the market, but if we consider what should be an extended life-span, fingers crossed it should become better value.
Cushioning and traction are great and for ultra-distance events it would certainly be one to consider alongside the VJ ULTRA.
GRAPHENE GRIP – Graphene mixed into the rubber compound provides added durability and strength without adding weight.
G-FLY Midsole – Graphene is used in the midsole foam to again add durability. In this shoe it should help it retain its cushioning properties for more miles. In our test pair we’ve logged around 100miles so far and it’s holding up incredibly well.
ADAPTER-FLEX – A deep flex groove channel cut into the midsole, this helps the shoe flex and adapt to the contours of the ground and terrain.
