Sits in the range between two very good options in the SPEEDGOAT and MAFATE. That makes this model a little tricky to place and ultimately the other two both feel slightly beeter. The shoe still performace well but the others slightly better in some areas.
Good shoe, no doubt, but now sitting in a crowded selection from the brand with lots of serious off-road offerings. It's like the shoe remains for sentimental purposes. If you have had the shoe better and enjoyed it, then absolutely get it again and you'll be totally happy. If not, go for better performance with the MAFATE, lighter with the SPEEDGOAT or for racing the TORRENT.
This off-roader has been around a while, so fans will be glad to see it continue. But unless you need this much cushioning the brand have other options that we feel perform slightly better. This shoe is the most cushioned HOAK have for off-road, but the MAFATE feels better in terms of durable cushioning and the SPEEDGOAT for lighter performance.
Massive amount of cushioning. feels good but on roguh ground a little too much. In fact its the brand most cushioned off-road model, but in turn that makes it a little unstable too, especially on the rough stuff.
4mm lugs offer reasonable traction but the Vibram sole of the MAFATE performs a little better on most surfaces.
Good shoe. But, for better cushioning go MAFATE and for a lighter shoe go for the SPEEDGOAT. Those two option make this one sit a little bit in no mans land!
