Cushioned and responsive but lacking stability. This off-road trail shoe is for neutral runners or perhaps those easy short runs when you need your legs to recover.
Updates to the Hoka Stinson 3 include a more balanced Meta-Rocker for improved forefoot support and tuned underfoot geometry for improved ride and stability off-road. The upper features ComfortFrame in the heel and midfoot for improved fit, and light padding on the tongue for increased comfort. Look to the Mizuno Wave Elevation for a similar experience.
First Impressions? Heavier than many Hoka shoes, it’s as flexible and cushioned but looks and feels a little sturdier perhaps down the stiffer upper and a marginally different heel to toe measurement of 6mm compared to Hoka’s more usual 5mm. With a lugged outsole that offers traction on anything from technical trails to roads and a comfortable, lightly structured upper holding your foot, this maximal trail shoe is ready to take on a variety of training days.
The ride in a Hoka shoe is always a pleasant affair thanks in part to the rocker midsole which helps with stride efficiency. Of course, the platform you’re working from is a thick and cushioned using HIP CMEVA, a high quality cushioning foam. The Full Ground Contact design of the outsole improves traction while also ensuring easier and better transitions from the heel to the toe. Hoka’s comfort technology continues with the Active Foot Frame design which allows your foot to sink into the foam without any energy loss implications. Great for that cushioned ride for sure!
A Lycra ComortFrame keeps your foot secure throw your running gait and the no-sew construction ensures a great fit. As you would expect from this technology, it is breathable and will keep your feet cool and dry throughout the toughest road run.
A good introduction to the comfortable world of Hoka. Great for road running and all things springy. Probably not a racing shoe, but perfect for most standard training runs.
How was the Hoka Stinson 3 for you? Let us know, we’d love to report your findings.
