This ultra light, ultra cushioned shoe defies logic almost. You sit high on a cushioned platform yet enjoy a low to the road speed feel.

First impressions

Updates to the Hoka Clifton 3’s upper features a new fit with a more accommodating forefoot, as well as a seamless speed frame construction for light weight and supreme comfort. A similar midsole geometry means that the industry leading ride remains as light and smooth as ever. Take a look at the Brooks Glycerin 14 for an alternative.

First impresions? The same Clifton cushioning with a more accommodating fit, the HOKA ONE ONE Clifton 3 is the shoe you've been waiting for. Built on a new last, the Clifton 3 utilizes a seamless speedframe upper with a wider forefoot, the full length HIP CMEVA midsole offers a soft cushioned ride sufficient for high mileage training, yet light enough for uptempo runs.

Midsole

Hoka continues to work on its durability and the new updated outsole appears to be much better in that department. The Full Ground Contact design of the outsole provides a good wide base for your foot to land on, which in turn means you can drive off more efficiently. It maximizes its surface area so that the rubber material would be able to work more efficiently in delivering traction. It also assists the foot in achieving a smoother and more natural transition through the gait cycle. The Compression Molded Ethylene vinyl acetate foam or CMEVA is used for the entire length of the Hoka One One Clifton 3’s platform. It’s a durable material that delivers sure cushioning that’s responsive and springy. Its thickness brings reliable impact protection and long-lasting performance.

The Early Stage Meta-Rocker Geometry is a rocker design that’s made to assist the foot in achieving a faster and more effective performance. It is likened to the actual mechanics of the foot when taking each step, rocking from the heel to the toe in a single, fluid motion.

Upper

You’ll really notice this is a summer-type shoe thanks to the air mesh material, which keeps your feet nice and cool. The Structural Overlays aren’t stitched onto the fabric of the Clifton 3. They’re fused directly to the mesh, thus reducing its weight and preventing stiffness in the upper. A No-Sew Construction allows the runner to feel comfortable when wearing the shoe without socks. It reduces risk of blistering and skin irritation.

Conclusion

We love them on warm, dry days. When the sun is out, it’s no exaggeration to say they are the best shoe to get the miles in… whatever distance you have planned.

How was the Hoka Clifton for you? Let us know, we’d love to report your findings.

1st time for maximal cushioning. It's a winnner

Swapped from Vomero 12 after Nike changed the setup.
Always stayed away from Hoka as they looked very bulky.
Boy was I wrong! They have massive cushioning but are very light and don't feel at all cumbersome on my feet.
Post run my legs feel much less stressed thanks to the cushion of the shoe. I'm a size 12 and have had no problem with fit. Consider me a convert!

Have you run in these shoes??
