We test Hoka's stability shoe, the latest Arahi
The Arahi 4 continues as Hoka's stability shoe. While it is no out and out motion control shoe, it offers decent levels of stability coupled with Hoka's super cushioned ride.
The Arahi is positioned by the brand as a stability shoe and that’s probably how it should be best considered. It is by no means an out-and-out support type shoe for over-pronators, simply one of the brands more stable models and perfect for those requiring just a little control. That’s no bad thing as it offers the same maximal cushioning from the most popular shoes in the brands range like the Clifton and combines it with a ‘J’ rail support system for a slightly more stable ride.
Hoka are not awash with stability shoes. The Arahi sits just below the Hoka Gaviota 2 which we liked.
Offering so much soft cushioning can necessitate the need for stability and that’s where the firmer ‘J’ shaped section of the midsole comes into effect. It essentially creates a cup-like section beneath the foot so impact sinks into it rather than rolls around.
The upper is a fairly standard engineered mesh. It is lightweight and allows for excellent. An ortholite Sockliner provides additional comfort in the footbed.
High abrasion rubber is placed on the outsole for durability and grip.
For those wishing to experience the maximal cushioned feel but require support, it’s a good solution and one which does so in a lightweight package.
EVA J-Frame provides lightweight dynamic stability by placing firmer EVA foam along the medial side of the shoe and around the heel to guide the foot naturally without using a standard medial post.
Early Stage Meta-Rocker Geometry is a rockered midsole design engineered to deliver a smooth ride and increased propulsion.
Hi-Abrasion Lightweight Rubber is strategically placed for increased traction and durability.
Engineered mesh on the upper is lightweight and allows for excellent airflow and breathability.
Padded Tongue enhances the step-in feel to create a plush fit.
Molded Ortholite Sockliner helps with odor management while providing additional underfoot cushioning.
