There is never been any argument that Hoka delivers when it comes to cushioning, but stability has been another issue. So it is great to report for those of you needing both - amazing underfoot comfort but control, meet the Arahi.
Lightweight and cushioned, the Arahi redefines what is possible with a supportive shoe. Featuring Hoka’s new J-Frame™ technology - designed to further enhance the active foot frame - it delivers support and protection while guiding your foot without the use of rigid and unforgiving materials. Take a look at the Mizuno Wave Connect 3 for a similar shoe.
Interesting. Hoka never ceases to surprise. This is a light, flexible shoe that suggests long road runs will be no problem for runners seeking support and stability.
Hoka uses its Dynamic Stability using its J-Frame technology that does what the name suggests – holds your foot in place. Indeed, our test team, having run in many different Hoka shoes, were slightly wary this would occur as they have been ‘loose’ in the past. But not in this instance. It’s actually a little firmer – in Hoka’s world that means soft rather than pillow-like – and the midsole also features the Early Stage Meta Rocker which provides a smoother heel to toe transition. Underneath zonal rubber placement ensures good grip and wear issues appear to have been tackled.
As with just about every Hoka shoe, it operates off a 5mm heel to toe drop which potentially will be unique for stability runners so be slightly wary.
Seamless and irritant free, this shoe has a now soft feel to it, but more importantly given its stability status, a good solid feel as well. The upper is also breathable and adds to the shoe’s light feel.
A Hoka shoe that’s not quite as soft? Really, well yes, but only so that it can support pronators required. This shoe wouldn’t be out of place in a marathon.
How was the Hoka Arahi for you? Let us know, we’d love to report your findings.
