Maximal cushioning and off-road traction make this a great long-distance off-road cruiser, it's the Range Rover for running.
In the right conditions the shoe is fantastic, with exceptional cushioning and good off-road traction thanks to the Vibram outsole. It's only on really technical routes where you might struggle, the shoe feeling a little 'too much' but choose your paths well and it's a winner.
Max cushioning with a great off-road sole, this shoe stands out for its great build quality. A real premium feel for an off-roader, the shoe really stands out as a capable and durable trail running option.
The Mafate is the brand's top off-road offering sitting above the Hoka Stinson ATR, Speedgoat 4 or the lower more aggressive Torrent models
A dual layer CM-EVA midsole provides a soft initial feel directly under the foot, while a firmer, more resposnive layer takes care of long term cushioning, durability and adds a little spring to the step. It's a well put together midsole unit and along with the HOKA rocker shape and maximal dimentions, it provides mile after mile of protection on the trails.
HOKA use a unique mesh construction in the model that gives it a durable yet premium feel. It's highly breathable and as such expells any water very quickly. Overlays provide protection and durability in key areas which gives the foot a very protected feel.
The Vibram MegaGrip sole is a real premium addition to the shoe. The multi-directional stud pattern and use of various rubber compounds makes it great for a vast range of conditions. In the wet or dry, gravel or mud, it provides excellent traction.
One of the brand's more expensive models, but given what it has to offer, it's somewhat of a bargain, particularly when placed against other premium shoes nowadays.
The cushioning is second to none. The grip is great in a variety of conditions and the overall construction quality is much better than many HOKA models.
For long-distance trail events, it's a no-brainer!
Thick EVA Thick dual-layer of EVA covers the whole of the foot.
Cushioning Top Layer First layer of EVA creates a soft feeling underfoot.
Shock Absorbing Layer The bottom layer absorbs shocks whilst providing spring and rebound.
Vibram MegaGrip Wet and dry traction guaranteed.
