A well priced multi-terrain shoe that would serve you well. As a good shoe for those that simply want one shoe in the cupboard. Good cushioning and that versatile grip make it a good all-round option.

Our verdict

The ATR - all-terrain-running initials sum up the shoe well. It can go anywhere and does so reasonably well. It's competitively priced too, especially when considered in the full brand line-up. A good option as a one shoe solution.

  • Positive
  • Uses recycled materials
  • Good cushioning
  • Versatile outsole
  • Negative
  • Needs better insole

First impressions

A good all rounder, the shoe looks to have everything most runners would require to tackle a variety of terrains.

Midsole

Compression moulded EVA - and a big chunk of it. Maximal cushioning as always from HOKA, but the foam itself is as expected with the familiar feel with the 5mm drop.

Upper

The use of some recycled materials in the upper is a nice feature and one that should be considered more by manufacturers. Overall the upper is strong and well-made. It's reinforced in key points of abrasion so should be durable for on and off-road use.

Sole

4mm lugs provide enough traction off-road and thanks to the over sized midsole, they don't protrude into the cushioning (or indeed your foot) when on the road. It's a good 'go anywhere shoe' in that respect.

Conclusion

A versatile and good value shoe. It's nice to see the price hasn't gone crazy and that there are some options from the brand that remain competitive and affordable. As a go-anywhere option the shoe ticks a lot of boxes for a lot of runners.
