A support shoe from the maximal cushioning brand. The Arahi uses a unique J-shaped dual density midsole to provide control.
The softer feeling midsole now seems to create some instability which the J frame has to control! Testers said the shoe now feels unbalanced instead of stable. Try before you buy this time!
Feels softer than previous version and with a larger difference in density between the cushioning and supportive elements of the midsole. A nice update to the upper, neatly engineered mesh fits well and feels highly breathable.
Familiar CM-EVA cushioning with a firmer J shape posting to add control. The overall cushioning feels softer than previous models and some testers were concerned about the overall stability.
Again, the insole could be better and some testers complained about rubbing, especially in the arch area.
The new upper has a simple design and is a little lighter and more breathable.
The usual HOKA outsole, small pieces of rubber placed in key contact point help increase durability and keep the weight down.
Thinking back to the early days of the brand, the low drop and rocker shape midsole promoted a more midfoot strike. In doing so this should naturally reduce over-pronation, so it's perhaps really due to the general popularity of the brand that they now need a support type shoe. It's been around for a few years and does a reasonable job for heel striking over-pronators, but would they be better off in a more specific support shoe? It's a decent enough shoe and perhaps best for fans of the brand that must have the max feel. Questions remain over the softer feel of the updated midsole cushioning so try on a treadmill at least before you buy.
For an alternative, we like the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 21 or perhaps consider the dated Nike Structure if you can buy cheaply.
