There is a definite market for a shoe like this. It is all about cushioning and support - not necessarily a shoe to worry about try for your fastest time in, but definitely one to think about when it comes to treating your knees, hips and feet.
Straight away, you know what this shoe is all about – support. Over the year, Brooks has really worked hard in this department so expect cushioning and comfort.
As you’d expect this shoe is rammed with technology, all designed with one thing in mind - comfort. At the centre of it all is Flextra, a rubber compound built with responsiveness and flexibility in mind; From there, the blown rubber outsole is nice and durable, using Brooks’ Ideal Pressure Zone for energy return. Essentially, this spreads out the shock impact to make sure it’s a whole foot experience and you’re less likely to get injured. Certainly, as you get up on your toes, the shoe does feel nice and accommodating and ready for some everyday running.
The midsole uses Super DNA to maximise cushioning - research shows there’s around 20 per cent more cushioning in this shoe than other Brooks models using other systems.
Stability and support comes in the form of Guide Rails, while The Double Omega Flex Grooves allow the mid-sole to be more flexible.
The ventilation and general fit is very good. For instance, the Profile Sock Liner is made from BioMoGo, which creates additional cushioning, it also offers contoured support to the curves of the underfoot. Element Lining manages moisture and the build using Conformable Saddle Construction means your foot is snug and held in place during even the toughest workout.
Stability and support but at the expense of performance. This is a no-nonsense sort of shoe and you’d be happy with just about every run in these. Certainly road runners looking to log the miles should give them a thought.
How was the Brooks Transcend for you? Let us know, we’d love to report your findings.
