Our verdict

The Ricochet 3 delivers a good combination of comfort and cushioning. Light but well cushioned, the shoe can be used for everyday mileage as well as for faster paced running making it extremely versatile.

  • Positive
  • Comfortable light upper
  • Combination of midsole tech
  • Value for money
  • Negative
  • Perhaps for dry roads only

First impressions

The Brooks Ricochet 3 is a good looking, no nonsense lightweight everyday training shoe which features a combination of the brand's BioMoGo DNA and DNA AMP technologies which can also be found in the brands Levitate 4 and Bedlam 3 models. It delivers a soft but extremely responsive ride. The Ricochet 3 is versatile as it is great for daily mileage but also for tempo and other sessions.

Midsole

So as stated, the midsole is soft but responsive. The DNA AMP cushioning is actually 20% lighter than before while providing the best energy return in the Brooks line and sits under the forefoot to give you a springy toe-off. So, a good combination for everyday running but as the shoe is fairly lightweight, it's a good choice for faster sessions when that DNA AMP foam will make you feel more energised.

Upper

We really like the look and feel of the sock-like upper. Brooks have improved the fit of the shoe and it really is very comforable. The knit has been reenginered to make it more flexible, more breathable, and it features an inner liner which adds to the comfort levels.

Sole

The chevron style rubber outsole has flex groves throughout making aiding fast transitions. It is relatively smooth, great for adding to a smooth ride. Grip is limited so definately one for the road only.

Conclusion

A versatile light trainer. Good looking and comfortable upper sitting on a combination of shock absorbing and springy foams. A very good shoe for daily use and decent value for money.

Technical info

  • DNA AMP cushioning system provides Brooks' highest amount of energy return, using a polyurethane midsole encased in a TPU skin that resists the expansion of the foam outwards, allowing the energy to be directed back upwards for an extremely energized ride.
  • BioMoGo DNA fuses BioMoGo midsole and DNA cushioning technology for a fully custom responsive ride that adapts to the needs of each and every runner.
  • Midfoot Transition Zone uses an arrow-point rubber outsole design to help direct pressure towards the forefoot, providing flexibility while encouraging quick transitions from heel to toe.
  • FitKnit upper uses 3D circular knit to provide a plush fit designed to flex and hold the foot strategically as it moves.
  • Internal bootie keeps the foot secure without adding any pressure points.
