Minimal, natural running shoe that delivers enough cushioning for speedwork, racing and the odd daily run. Fast and flexible.
The Pure series has always been about promoting a natural running style. This is the 6th in the series of PureFlow’s and follows in the tradition of low-riding shoes. The 4mm heel drop is somewhere close to a natural riding shoe but features enough cushioning to warrant putting it in the daily trainer mix.
The shoe features a seamless and stretchy upper and offers a sock-like fit. They’re extremely comfortable on the foot. There were some complaints about the 5th edition of this shoe in that they were too tight in the toe box but Brooks have listened and changed the fit of this shoe. It now offers much more room in the toe box which will please many. While they only come in the one width, the shoe should provide a great fit for virtually everyone.
The ride is firm but responsive. The midsole material is Brooks’ BioMoGo DNA LT (for light weight!) and it provides a very snappy feel. The shoes feel quick so they’re ideally suited to days when you want to pick the pace up.
Like all natural shoes, they take a bit of getting used to but when you are happy with the low drop, they’d make a great racing shoe.
The BioMoGo DNA LT offers runners the chance to experience a natural running shoe without compromising too much on cushioning so maybe a great choice for those wanting to ‘go low’ but might be nervous about taking the first step. Lower shoes take some getting used to; you’re running style changes and they’ll put more stress on your lower limbs.
The BioMoGo DNA LT helps ease you in giving you that firm but decent cushioning. They’re really comfortable underfoot, and as previously mentioned, very responsive. If you have been running in natural shoes for a while, we think you’ll enjoy running in the PureFlow 6 over any distance. They might actually provide more support and cushioning than your previous shoes.
We thought the shoe looks really good. They have a slipper–like feel and great padding around the heel collar that really hugs your foot giving you a secure feeling. The upper wraps around your foot actually, again, giving you a secure feeling at pace which is not only good but important. The upper overlays give strength in key areas without adding any weight. However, the tight mesh upper isn’t as breathable as other models and they do get warm.
As mentioned, the toe box is now wider reducing any forefoot pinching. Your feet feel better in the forefoot than in the previous model which was just too tight.
The outsole works with the midsole to ensure flexibility. The FlexGrid blown rubber offers a great feel on hard surfaces. There are some serious flex groves on this outsole that contribute to that responsiveness and flexibility.
The PureFlow 6 sits at 4mm drop sit at the top end of what might be termed a natural running shoe but that’s a good thing for most. The pool of potential runners is much larger than those wanting a very low-riding shoe. The BioMoGo DNA LT offers runners the chance to experience a natural running shoe while still providing enough cushioning making this a versatile shoe. Great to ease yourself in to natural running, great for pace running, great for racing. Firm but flexible, this is a good-looking shoe that would also be suited for gym sessions.
