Our verdict

Streamlined yet cushioned, this shoe hits the sweet spot between a race flat and a standard trainer.

  • Positive
  • Good cushioning
  • Lightweight
  • Brooks quality
  • Negative
  • At this price, no real downside

First impressions

A racer-trainer type shoe with enough cushioning for everyday miles yet is light enough for faster paced running and races. Heavier runners may find it a perfect race day shoe thanks to the added cushioning protection over out and out racers.

Its a versatile shoe and very well priced and with the Brooks build quality its a very good all-rounder.

The shoe sits on its own in the Brooks range as a light neutral racer/trainer. If you need a little more support, look to the Brooks Ravenna 11 or if you're a speed merchant, go to the very fast Brooks Hyperion racer.

Midsole

The Brooks BioMoGo DNA cushioning is a great performer, good shock protection properties as well as being light and flexible. In this guise it's in a package tailored to slightly faster paced running but to be honest, it's happy at whatever speed you are moving at.

Upper

A nicely put together engineered mesh construction with a bootie construction wraps around the foot neatly. It's single layer design that maintains breathability and helps keep the overall weight down.

Sole

The standard carbon rubber heel and blown rubber forefoot combines durability with a nice flexible toe off. The tread pattern is also good enough to cope with gravel paths. It's not an out and out trail shoe, but it's versatile and can cope with many everyday routes.

Conclusion

At this price, there is nothing to not like about this shoe. It's great value makes a good account of itself in many areas.

Good, lightweight cushioning and well made upper to provide a nice fit. Ok, so you can get more cushioned shoes, you can get lighter shoes but, you will almost certainly pay more money for other shoes. If you want a one-stop shoe, it's a very good choice.
