An everyday shoe, the Launch 5 delivers a great lightweight responsive ride. This is a high-performance shoe that offers exceptional value for money.
Nothing much has changed in this latest version of the Launch series. We loved the Launch 4 and other than a reworked upper, it is the same shoe.
The Launch 5 is a neutral and lightweight running shoe with a BioMogo DNA midsole that will give you a softish responsive ride. It’s versatile because of it and we’ve always loved faster runs in this shoe but it’s a shoe you could wear every day, particularly if you’re an efficient or lighter runner. With a 10mm heel drop, the Launch 5 will feel familiar and suit many neutral runners making this shoe a good one perhaps if you are thinking about racing on the roads and it would make a great marathon shoe.
The shoe also offers exceptional value for money. We have recently reviewed the Saucony Liberty ISO which we loved but this offers much better value for money. Top tip – given the fact that this shoe hasn’t changed very much, you might be able to pick up a bargain by buying the Launch 4.
The upper has been reworked. It has a new single mesh one piece upper over an internal bootie. The seamless construction feels sock-like when on the foot; we’ve always been a big fan of the fit and nothing has changed with this new model.
Nothing has changed here from the Launch 4. Cushioning is excellent and it is responsive thanks to the BioMogo DNA. The midsole is flexible and the shoe is happy to help you get up on to your toes. The addition of the S-257 Cushsole is technology used in the insole delivers even more cushioning and flexibility.
The caterpillar crash pad in the heel is a segmented crash pad that flexes with the foot, offering customized cushioning and stability for a smooth heel-to-toe transition.
Featuring a mixture of different weaves, the mesh is strong where it needs to be and extremely breathable. A printed logo and welded lace eyelet overlays ensure that the upper is super-lightweight. With a nicely padded tongue and heel collar adding to the 3D stretch mesh upper comfort, the Launch 5 is a very comfortable place to be.
The attractive figure of eight design offers good grip. High abrasion resistant materials feature in the heel as you’d expect while the blown rubber is soft, flexible and durable.
The upside about some minor tweaks on a shoe is a good thing if the shoe is great in the first place! The Launch 5 is a simple shoe. It’s very comfortable and offers a soft ride but it’s also responsive. The 10mm drop will suit many and the weight makes it versatile. Simple, effective and great value for money.
