As a long distance cruiser, these are a great shoe. The 12mm ride height means that they might be particularly good for the older or heavier runner.
These are a soft feeling shoe; the type that is comfortable straight out of the box. Of course, that does mean for some they might not be too forgiving and almost by default, that softness suggests an everyday, long run type of shoe. Not a bad thing, but be sure of what you want from them!
Brooks has stuck by the technologies that made the 9 so successful - it’s a massively popular shoe in the USA. The BioMoGo DNA midsole cushioning dynamically adapts to your stride, dispersing impact away from your body for just-right softness underfoot. Our test team have long favoured the Brooks cushioning system and the latest version doesn’t disappoint. Agreed, softness can be off-putting for some runners but to be honest, we’ve yet to be disappointed by the feel. The 12mm drop is super friendly and takes no time to get used to. Again, that number will mean different things to different runners and plenty will immediately reject them on the basis of that high reading - no problem, plenty enjoy the control figures like this produce.
Today runners expect a super comfortable fit and the 10 might like a little different to the 9, but the engineered mesh upper provides a forgiving environment for your feet. It’s a key area where shoes have moved on in recent years and worth investing in. The strategically placed stretch and structure is exactly where you need it.
The Segmented Crash Pad is designed to adapt to each foot fall, so no matter how your foot lands, you’ll enjoy a smooth ride. That may sound like a bold claim, but these are a consistent shoe that works well at the end of your run as well as at the start. We were pleasantly surprised by the support this neutral shoe provides throughout the running experience.
A great everyday shoe that particularly enjoys a long run. It’s competitively light so you can use it for the odd spadework session and keep it firmly on the road while doing so. These are a great shoe and dare we say it, great for the older runner thanks to that 12mm drop.
The Ghost 10 won the Editors Choice in 2017's Runner's World shoe awards.
