Our verdict

Brooks know what they are doing with this trail shoe - and they should, it's been around long enough. This update tweaks the shoe rather than totally changing it and makes it better than ever.

  • Positive
  • Great cushioning
  • Great traction
  • Great build quality
  • Negative
  • None - what's not to like?

First impressions

Redesigned for improved fit and support, the Brooks Cascadia 14 features a new Pivot Post system that utilises four points of suspension for stability on uneven ground. The new internal saddle cradles the foot for a non-slip fit, and the durable Cordura Mud Guard protects from debris while improving the shoes drainage and breathability.

Finished off with a sticky, TrailTrack rubber outsole, the Brooks Cascadia 14 will inspire confidence on any terrain or adventure.

For a slightly softer riding shoe, the other shoe in the range at the same price worth a look is the Brooks Caldera 4.

Midsole

BioMoGo DNA cushioning is that as used throughout the Brooks range, so you know it's good stuff. Here, with the pivot system it works well to provide cushioning but at the same time keep you stable regardless of the terrain.

Upper

A durable upper is reinforced at key points for protection and durability, but manages to remain relatively soft and wraps the foot well. Essentially it is everything you'd expect of a Brooks shoe.

Sole

The new rubber outsole delivers great traction on pretty much any surface. Its evenly spread lugs cover the whole sole, so even on firm trails and road sections the shoe remains comfortable.

Conclusion

A go anywhere shoe that continues to perform. Probably the most capable all-round trail shoe around.
