Our verdict

The Brooks Adrenaline GTS series is well known to many runners as a comfortable support shoe. Runners appreciate the shoe’s dependable cushioning and stable but unrestrictive build. The latest version is the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 22 has taken a big step forward - much like its neutral shoe alternative the Ghost 14, with a huge update and redesign to the midsole. The midsole is now full Brooks DNA LOFT cushioning, the softest Brooks midsole cushioning ever.

  • Positive
  • Updated cushioning if fantastic
  • Support is enough without compromising performance
  • Upper is much improved and the fit is plush and comfortable
  • Negative
  • Blown rubber forefoot can wear quickly depending on your running gait
  • Not stable enough for severe overpronators

First impressions

The cushioning really took me by surprise on the first run, especially when compared to the Adrenaline GTS 21 which I still wear occasionally for long runs. Same great level of support thanks the the Guiderail system, but a huge leap in underfoot comfort. There is now a big difference between the GTS 22 and all previous models - The new shoe is well worth the investment over previous models.

The midsole feels considerably softer than previous versions, the shoe still offers the same supportive runners want from the Adrenaline series. The DNA loft foam is a big leap forward in underfoot comfort but the overall ride has not changed massively and this is still a fantastic shoe for long runs. The blend of softness vs enough support is still there in this new Adrenaline.

Brooks’ signature GuideRail technology, which is two firmer inserts of foam running along both sides of your heel, minimizes pronation nicely. This support is there, but hardly noticable and is a great bridge between a neutral and support shoe.

A new upper is very simlar to the Brooks Ghost. It is an engineered mesh upper with breathability built in. There is no compormise on the plush padding around the collar and in the tongue . All round the shoe feels expensive, has no hot spots and the last has not changed from previous versions the the fit stays true to previous models.

Brooks’ Segmented Crash Pad technology is simply a system of individual pods on the outsole that offer maximum protection while helping you rebound off the ground for smooth transitions. The outsole is ok, its durable enough, smooth running and capable in wet conditions.

The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 22 is a fantastic high mileage training shoe for runners needing a little more support. They’re cushioned enough to provide high end impact absorption without feeling heavy or bulky at any pace.

The updated new midsole provides softer cushioning, while an engineered mesh upper offers lightweight and breathable support.

This really is one of my favourate shoes for long Sunday runs, as it soaks up the miles and the support really kicks in later on the run when I am getting tired - mainly from the beer the previous evening!
