First impressions

The Brooks Adrenaline GTS is their best-selling running shoe so any new model makes fans break out in a cold sweat, but rest assured GTS lovers…

As with the previous Adrenaline GTS model (which we loved!), this is a shoe for the moderate to over-pronator that doesn’t look or feel like a brick, not always the case in over-pronator world. We are delighted to report that this new version delivers the same exceptional cushioning and support but is even sleeker and offers some pleasing tweaks.

The shoe hasn’t changed wildly but it had been modified. Running in the GTS will afford you a great level of cushioning from its BioMoGo DNA midsole but this foam has been tweaked slightly to deliver a softer ride. The foam is paired with an updated progressive diagonal roll bar which helps keeps your body properly aligned. This combination works very well and the heel to toe transition felt better than in the previous model.

The most noticeable difference with the Adrenaline GTS 18 is in the look of the shoe due to its completely new engineered mesh upper. It has a much cleaner sock-like sleek look and it actually feels more comfortable on foot. The reduction in overlays deliver a more accommodating fit which is great for those which a wider foot.

Grip has also been improved on this model with the addition of some new rubber placements on the outsole.

I’ve run marathons in previous models of this shoe and it’s looked after me through some tough times. It is light enough to not bother with lighter shoes for longer races which is a godsend for us requiring a good degree of motion control. Years of running in bricks is, thankfully, a thing of the distant past.

The Adrenaline GTS 18 also won the Editors Choice in the recent Runner's World shoe awards.

Midsole

BioMoGo DNA is a high-quality foam material that’s actually made from the amalgamation of two distinct Brooks technologies. Derived from recycled materials, it caters to those who are more conscious of the environment. It’s also functional; it gives contoured support & cushioning to the underfoot. As previously mentioned, the foam has been adjusted to provide a softer ride in this model.

The modified progressive diagonal roll bar works with a crash pad in the heel area so slow down the rate of pronation making the transition from heel to toe fairly seemless.

At just 10.1oz for men and 8.8oz for women, motion controllers can consider this shoe light and that it makes it very user friendly; they feel good at virtually any pace.

The 12mm heel to toe drop is very user-friendly.

Upper

We’re a big fan of the new upper. The mesh is now softer delivering a more comfortable feel on-foot experience while still providing a supportive and snug wrap around the midfoot.

The heel collar is well padded and grips your heel snugly and comfortably. Overlays have been welded on to the upper for strength without adding any seams.

Sole

Refinements in softer cushioning and improving the flexibility make the transition of this shoe a very smooth affair and Brooks’ best yet. The usual high abrasion rubber at the heel ensures durability and the blown rubber square grip configuration works well and is comfortable underfoot.

Conclusion

The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 18 delivers exceptional levels of motion control and cushioning in a sleek package. The changes to this new model have been improvements which will come as a huge relief to Adrenaline GTS fans. Ideal for daily training and for pushing the pace along, the GTS 18 will ensure that you’ll run every mile in comfort.
