Running in the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 is about balancing plush cushioning, stability, and fit for a smooth ride for those who need support. This streamlined update feels softer underfoot and retains the secure, comfortable fit that makes this Go-To-Shoe a perennial favorite.
Cushioning is the name of the game for this stability shoe. It doesn’t feel like a solid, unforgiving shoe, more one that will provide support but not venture too far from the fact that runners love performance. We’ve used older versions for the marathon so can tell you it’s all of the above.
The Brooks Adrenaline GTS is described as having one of the highest levels of cushioning on the market and as our marathon choice, we can report that is true and that it’s not at the expense of weight. At just 10.7oz it’s very competitive in that department especially as there’s that full-length segmented crash pad absorbs shock, called the Caterpillar Crash Pad which means the sole unit follows the segmented form and motion of a caterpillar. Your mind’s eye will see how that pushes impact along with each stride. There’s also a customizable fit in the heel area, there’s plenty of technology to enjoy. We are real fans of the Biomogo midsole cushioning which is Brooks’ version of creating as natural a stride as possible. BioMoGo DNA is a high-quality foam material that’s actually made from the amalgamation of two distinct Brooks technologies. Derived from recycled materials, it caters to those who are more conscious of the environment. It’s also functional; it gives contoured support & cushioning to the underfoot. The 12mm heel to toe drop is very user-friendly.
Updated design in the upper to be more aerodynamic – sounds good and is good. It’s also very breathable thanks to Brooks’ Element Mesh fabric which does a great job at heat and moisture management. The Adjustable Saddle in the midfoot makes for a nice secure fit and Element Lining is used in the interior to create a comfortable home for your feet. It’s also worth noting that you don’t notice any of this, which may sound strange but is actually a major plus point. You just want to put the shoe on and get on with it without worrying about rubbing etc and this does exactly that.
Cushioning, stability and a touch of performance make this a great shoe for everyday running and for a vast number of athletes out there, the kind of shoe you might like to consider for something like a marathon. The plush fit and superb response doesn’t come at any cost when it comes to weight, so you’ll feel happy pushing the pace along in these .
The 12mm riding height will be good for those who have had or tend to get problems with their lower legs (calf muscles) and also for heavier runners.
How has the Brooks Adrenaline GTS been for you? Let us know, we’d love to report your findings.
