This shoe aims to provide exception levels of control for over-pronators. In that job it is great. Yes, its a little bit dated, its a little heavy and its not the most stylish, but for control - outstanding.

Our verdict

This shoe aims to provide exception levels of control for over-pronators. In that job it is great. Yes, its a little bit dated, its a little heavy and it's not the most stylish, but for control - outstanding. The quality of the shoe is every bit as good as other shoes from the brand, it's a nice fitting well made upper and cushioning is plentiful.

  • Negative
  • A little heavy

First impressions

At first glance this is a lot of shoe. There's loads of cushioning and a large medial post. This adds a certain weight and bulk to the shoe. But it's made for the more severe over-pronator and it works very well for that runner.

The shoe sits under the much more expensive Brooks Transcend and to some degree under the brilliant Adrenaline GTS although that's more of a support shoe with the Addiction being a full-blown motion control shoe. If you just need some support and want to spend around this amount, also have a look at the Brooks Ravenna 11.

Midsole

There deep cushioning makes the shoe stand out, as does the medial post. It is a big old chunk of denser material in the shoe - old school style - but it works. If you are a more severe over-pronator and/or a heavier runner, this shoe will control that roll!

Upper

A well made upper with plenty of padding around the heel counter and collar helps make this a very comfortable shoe from the very first step. That comfort helps, particualrly for the heavier runner, in that it gives the shoe a more welcoming feel given its weight.

Sole

There's nothing of particualr note about the outsole, but there doesn't need to be to be honest. It's durable and does the job. In a shoe like this it's all about the cushioning and control and that works just fine.

Conclusion

If you are a heavier runner and/or need lots of support this shoe stands out in that it offers all you'll need at such a great price. It's almost a secret, a forgotten shoe, but seek it out and you'll be amazed at its performance, value and durability.

Horrendous quality

I agree with AW review but the shoes I bought looked a few years old within a few days when the stitching over the big toe zone came apart (I had only walked in them a few times with no sticks or rubbing together to instigate this!). I returned the first pair and got a replacement - exactly the same problems. The inner half of these shoes are terrible quality. Bought about 12 months ago around May 2020 so not sure if this is a COVID related manufacturing issue as I suspect. At 12 months of age they look like they are 20years old and long overdue for turfing out. Apart from the very torn big toe area, there’s a full depth hole nearby and tears also just up from the top lace holes. I’ve only done walking in them.

Have you run in these shoes??
