Range topping shoe pushing the boundaries of technology to reduce lost energy!
The exagerated rocker shape to the sole and firm construction aim to reduce ankle joint movement for heel strikers. This in turn should help save energy and therefore increase efficiency.
A great shoe, but just too expensive, if you want to experience the technology and development behind this shoe, try the GlideRide or EvoRide, both of which feature similar design traits yet are considerably less expensive.
Deep, rocker shaped midsole aims to reduce flex at the ankle joint to improve efficiency. It's an unusual ride for the first few miles but once things settle down, it's a smooth rolling and efficent feeling shoe that fits and feels great.
The Metaride sits at the very top of the brand's neutral cushioned offerings. Both the Glideride and the Evoride are considerably cheaper. For a more standard feel, the Gel Nimbus 22 won't disappoint.
A multi-layered constuction uses the brands premium cushioning materials to create a unique ride.
FlyteFoam is the lightest cushioning material ASICS has ever made, 55% lighter than the industry standard, EVA. It's reinforced, organic fibres let the material bounce back to its original shape after every run to improve performance and durability.
A full-length FlyteFoam Propel platform is designed to provide enhanced responsiveness at toe-off.
Rearfoot and GEL Cushioning Systems work to reduce shock during the impact phase and is placed between the two foam based layers.
The entire midsole has a rocker shape, which retains its shape very well, even after many miles, to reduce flexion at the ankle joint and improve efficiency.
The circular knit upper has prodcued one of the nicest uppers in a running shoe. The fit is superb, soft, plush and sock-like comfort from the very first time you slip your foot in.
All the upper fabrics and materials are of a high quality and simply feel fantastic.
The external heel counter (meta-clutch) provides a good fit in the heel without adding bulk or excess weight.
The outsole is a simple, one-piece design. A skeleton-like structure, it offers good flexibility and durability without added too much weight.
While the shoe initially feels a little unusual, you quickly become accustomed to the ride. The shoe does feel stiff, but this stiffness aims to reduce the excessive movement of the ankle joint and in turn reduce energy expenditure, which SHOULD improve efficiency.
This improvement is, ultimately difficult to measure outside of a lab, so we can simply go by feel and it feels good. It's a smooth ride once you know what to expect, and it feels natural and smooth. Cushioning is good, as is durability.
Fit is fantastic, as it should be for a shoe of this price and that is ultimately the downside to what is a great shoe.
Circular Knit Uppers - Ensures lightweight, breathable and supportive comfort and it a fantastic fit.
MetaClutch - An external heel counter which secures the rearfoot for a non-slip fit.
FlyteFoam - Lightweight and responsive, it features a reinforced, sustainable nanofibre compound which increases the foam's durability and provides more stability.
FlyteFoam Propel - Designed to provide enhanced responsiveness at toe-off.
Rearfoot GEL Cushioning Systems - Attenuate shock at heel-strike and toe-off plus promote a smooth transition through the gait cycle.
3D Guidance Line - Vertical flex groove works to enhance gait efficiency.
GuideSole - Increases traction and durability whilst remaining lightweight.
Curved Outsole - Increases running efficiency and reduces ankle flexion, this ASICS say reduces energy costs.
