ASICS response to the carbon plated shoe debate. Responsive foam cushioning with a carbon palte incorporated in to the midsole.
Light and fast and coming in with a stack height of 25mm means it's under the new World Athletics rules on the use of road running shoes in track events. So for many that find track spike too aggressive this could be the 'legal' answer for you.
A great shoe, if somewhat of a compromise. Yes it has (relatively springy) foam cushioning and a carbon plate, but it still feels more like an up dated racer than an entirely new concept. It's good, it's comfortable and it's legal for track running too, so for many it could well prove to be their magic shoe.
Light, stiff and fast. On placing them on your feet they immediately feel like that need to be travelling at speed to be appreciated.
The rocker toe and stiff forefoot enhance the ride but only at speed.
A little lower in terms of stack height than many carbon racers, and thats a plus point, making them track legal if required.
FLYTEFOAM cushioning makes up the cushioning for the biggest part, with a carbon plate running from midfoot through to the toes. The plate is curved too, so it provides a stable (stiff) section to the very curved, rocker forefoot, increasing the stiffness of the toes when you push off. This gives a fast, aggressive feel and one which need a little adjustment - you need to be going much faster than normal, it's not a shoe for easy running. It's built for speed and the faster you go the better it gets.
Stack height is 25mm - making them track legal for distance racing as per the latest World Athletics Rules.
The lightweright mesh upper is highly breathable and knitted in a manner to direct airflow to the foot to keep it cool. It fits well thanks to the soft, stretch propeties and seems very effective at temperature regulation.
A wet-grip outsole provides good traction in any conditions and adds durability to the shoe.
Whilst the shoe may not complete with other carbon racers on the roads, its 25mm stack height does make it track legal, so for those seeking a highly responsive carbon plated racer for track use, this is the answer.
It's still a great road racers and feels like a blend of old meets new. Old school lightweight road shoe with the latest carbon plate technology.
Like all the new bread of racers, it has a hefty price tag to go with that carbon, but that now seems like the price to pay for these type of shoes.
