Good value, support option from ASICS. Offers the brand's famous GEL cushioning in the heel and enough support for most over pronators. Not overley fussy so it keeps the weight down too, making a good entry level support shoe from the brand.

Our verdict

The ASICS GT-1000-10 is an affordable and reliable everyday running shoe designed for the mild to moderate overpronator. It sits towards to bottom of the brand's range of support shoes, but don't let that put you off. It works well and offers good value for money.

  • Good level of cushioning
  • Neatly finished and good value
  • Negative
  • Can get better cushioning (but at a price)

First impressions

The 10th anniversary of the GT-1000. The shoe sees a newly designed upper featuring an engineered mesh design. It really brings the model up to date and follows what was a slightly overdue upper redesign across the range. The shoe remains a mild support option for over-pronators and works well. Combined with the familiar GEL cushioning it provides a good level of cushioning and control.

Midsole

That ASICS GEL remains in the heel and does a good job of absorbing the initial heel strike. The DUOMAX, dual-density midsole features a medial post to help control over-pronation and this works well for all but the most severe over-pronators. There are more supportive shoes from the brand, but the degree of extra support they offer is minimal. This model, the GT2000 and the KAYANO all offer similar amounts of control, differing more by the midsole cushioning material they use, each becoming a little softer and more responsive perhaps as the price increase.

Upper

The upper is a new engineered mesh design and brings the look fo the shoe bang up to date. It's stylish and fits well, with a nice degree of stretch-like feel, wrapping around the foot.

Sole

The outsole is durable and features a carbon rubber heel section for added durability. There are well-placed grooves for forefoot flexibility and to help with overall control throuhg the foot strike.

Conclusion

A good value option that remains a very competitive proposition in this footwear catagory.
