Our verdict

A simple and elegant support shoe that offers plenty of cushioning and a decent amount of support without ever feeling bulky. Support is at the bottom end of what's available, but for slight over-pronators it does the job well.

  • Positive
  • Great option for over pronators wanting a fast feeling shoe
  • Simple but effective upper with good, no frills perfomance
  • Fantastic value packed full of great features
  • Negative
  • Doesn't have the top end foam for responsiveness
  • Lacks some extra cushioning at very high miles
  • Upper is a touch plain

First impressions

For the price, this shoe feels great, responds well to some mileage, and is a great everyday training shoe for a variety of distances and paces. The updates are good and well engineered with each technology working together to deliver a well rounded shoe.

There are so many people running in the incorrect shoes wanting a great look over perfomance. If your unsure about what type of shoe you need, the Asics GT 1000 v9 is the perfect shoe to try as it's more than suitable for most runners out there.

The shoe sits towards the bottom of the brand's supportive line but don't let that put you off. If you want a little more cushioning and support, look to the Asics GT-2000, the GT-4000 or the top of the range Gel Kayano 26. If stability is an issue for you but you don't want to stretch to the price of a Kayano, take a look at the Asics Foundation.

Midsole

For the money, this is a really great midsole and definately the reason to buy the shoe. Rides and performs like much more premium prices shoes and has everything that a runner needs from an everyday trainer.

There is no gel in the forefoot, but who cares? Normally the gel pad is so small and so useless it's really not worth paying more for a shoe with one, you dont miss it and it makes no difference to performance.

The Flytefoam Lite compound is responsive and lasts well over many miles - combined with a decent gel pad in the heel that wraps nicely down the lateral crash pad at the point of impact, the shoe is really smooth from heel to toe.

A small but perfectly suitable medial second density Duomax insert offers support when you need it (all the time or when your getting tired) but isn't obtrusive to any neutral runner - so its really a shoe for all.

Upper

It's clean, simple and breathable with welded overlays for the facing and a decent amount of breathability. The toe box is under the upper and there are really no hotspots to cause any irritation.

It's boring looking but hugely practical so if you are happy to compromise on the style points, the shoe is a really a stripped back shoe that delivers all the essentials and avoids the overcomplications of many shoes.

The mesh is tight, it accomodates a slightly wider foot thanks to the lack of overlays and the heel is solid but not spectaclar.

Sole

Full rubber coverage for great durability, some element of lugs for a little bit of traction should you venture slightly off road and some deep and wide flex grooves combine to deliver a smooth and flexible forefoot for efficiency. Again, no frills but perfectly happy on a variety of surfaces and enough rubber to make it a durable everyday trainer.

Conclusion

Incredible value offering some serious bang for your buck thanks to it being packed with really good technologies that combine to make a really well balanced and responsive support shoe that is suitable for almost anyone.
