A shoe aimed more at the casual runner that seeks style over substance.
Whilst incororating many of the brand's technologies, it's an over priced excercise. That said, you can probably pick this shoe up for half the price and if you can then it presents a good value, highly cushioned shoe.
If you can find this shoe at a discount then you'll have a very well cushioned and stable road running shoe for racking up the miles. If not, probably best avoided.
A very cushioned shoe with all that GEL!
Perhaps a little heavy and on the chunky side, it would suit the heavier runner that requires a very stable yet cushioned ride.
For an alternative at around the same price, check out the classic, Asics Gel Nimbus 22. If money is no object, the Asics Metaride is the top of the neutral range but if you have more sense than money, the Asics Glideride and the Gel Cumulus 21 mate more financial sense.
Just look at all that GEL!
It surrounds the midsle and provides great cushioning as well as remaining very stable thanks to the way it wraps around the entire perimeter of the shoe.
It's a little bit heavy and clunky, but for the heavier runner it provides a good platform on the roads.
The knitted mesh upper has a one-piece construction so offers a seam free fit. There's little chance of irritation here and it keeps the upper breathable and comfortable.
The AHAR rubber outsole provides a very durable finish to the shoe and ensures long life. It's best suited to the roads, but the occasional gravel track or path shouldn't trouble the shoe too much.
There is no doubt this shoe is very well made, provides excellent cushioning and a stable ride. But, being positioned along side the regular specialist running range it doesn't really feature in specialist running store line-ups.
The price is a bit steep, even when compared to the other premium models from ASICS, the Nimbus and Kayano, but you can most probably find this shoe discounted at a non-specialist online retailer, perhaps even at half price! If that's the case it suddenly makes a very compelling argument to purchase.
Packed with technology, this shoe provides excellent cushioning and a great fit.
Breathable Shift Mesh Upper - Increases breathability and has a nice finish and feel.
Seamless upper - Reduced risk of rubbing and discomfort, to again provide a great fit.
Solyte midsole - Lightweight and resilient cushioning.
Rearfoot and Forefoot GEL Cushioning Systems - placed all around the shoe to minimise joint stress and maximise ride comfort.
AHAR+ outsole - For enhanced durability and traction.
