A really solid but well-cushioned ride for a trail shoe. You could run for miles in comfort.
It is dangerous to use the phrase average but its difficult to find a more appropriate word for this excellent shoe. It does everything it was designed to do: cope with water thanks to the in-built drainage system, laugh at rock thanks to the rock protection plate and skip through mud as a result of the multi directional lugs on the outsole. There are nice little extras like the anti gravel tongue as well as all the usual Asics technologies such as the DuoMax Support system that provides a solid, stable feel to the shoe, working off a 12mm heel to toe drop. This is a shoe ready to tackle anything you care to throw at them. Laugh in the face of wet, slippery rock trails that involve running through a river.
Asics always comes up with the goods when it comes to ride quality and the AHAR (high abrasion resistant rubber) does everything you’d hope for when it comes to tackling rocky terrain. There is also a rock protection plate for added comfort and the multi-directional lugs provide excellent grip. The mid-sole is soft and responsive, which is slightly unusual for Asics which tends to go for a firmer ride but don’t think this is a pillow-type shoe; it is more solid, responsive and pretty protective over rough ground. It weighs in at 375g.
Breathability and general comfort is also good and in fact this quickly became a favourite for longer, canal path-type runs that wandered slightly to muddier woodland terrain. You can venture further afield or stay on the road because this is a versatile running shoe.
The shoe features a Wetgrip outsole, an outsole made from a special blend of organic and non-organic components, designed to enhance traction even on wet surfaces. Works well.
A great shoe for general off-road use. Good cushioning, stable and protective with that rock protection placte, this shoe is extremely versatile. The high ride height makes it feel like a road shoe so watch it if venturing out on to very uneven ground.
