Our verdict

For heavier runners with flexible feet that over-pronate, the Foundation will provide everything you need.

  • Positive
  • Great support and control
  • deep cushioning
  • 2E wide fit
  • Negative
  • A little heavy
  • A little 'clunky'

First impressions

Coming in a 2E width fitting, the Foundation, as its name suggests, provides a good place to put your feet. Its broad fit and supportive feel keep you steady and provides good cushioning.

The Foundation is nestled in towards the lower end of the Asics supporting running offering. The Asics GT-1000 would sit below it in terms of price with the Asics GT-2000 and the Asics Kayano sitting above it.

Midsole

The cushioning is deep to almost maximal levels and with the DUOMAX technology it gives plenty of support for over-pronators. Infact, it one of the most support shoes in this catagory.

Upper

It's a wider, 2E width fitting with a seamless upper construction that allows for broader feet as well as those that suffer with bunions. It is a no-nonsense design that does the job without fuss.

Sole

A durable outsole provides traction on the roads and has the usual AHAR rubber in the heel for added durability.

Conclusion

A shoe that does the job; provides great support for over pronators and with the wide fit and deep cushioning, also caters for the heavier runner.

It's a heavy shoe, but that comes from the high amount of cushioning and the durable rubber used in the sole, so you'll be willing to sacrifice that weight for the support and long life.
