Our verdict

Stability shoes are getting more innovative and brands are searching for new, more innovative solutions to over pronation - no more so than Nike. But this Structure 22 update remains in the old school group of posted shoes and overall its feel and ride feels dated and past its prime.

  • Positive
  • Upper is incredibly comfortable
  • Outsole is hardwearing and versatile
  • Negative
  • Solid feeling from the off - compared to other shoes its sluggish

First impressions

Just because you need some stability no longer means you need to compromise performance and comfort. Nike React Infinity , Brooks Adrenaline GTS 20 and Saucony Hurricane 22 are great examples of shoes delivering support in fresh and better ways than the Nike Structure 22.

There are fans of Structure out there, and this shoe caters for them well, but as an option at retail the new update isn't ripping up trees in support, cushioning or responsiveness - and because of that, it's just not hitting the quality needed from a Nike support shoe!

Midsole

Dynamic support technology in the midsole works to provide balance between support and a smooth transition. The support post gradually increases from lateral to medal sides to guide the foot, but this tech has been around for years and brands are gradually moving away from this method of control. The Structure though, is a solid feeling shoe compared to many other there, which may appeal!

Nike Zoom Air in the forefoot gives some extra bounce but it runs quite hard compared to some other shoes on the market.

Upper

Engineered mesh upper is seamless with perforations in the fabric to increase airflow. The excellent Flywire cables integrate with the laces to wrap the midfoot and arch in a dynamic fit helping to anchor you to the midsole and reduce in-shoe slippage.

A partial bootie construction is snug, reducing the risk of rubbing and blisters plus a tapered heel collar increases comfort around the Achilles tendon.

Sole

A honeycomb pattern outsole in the forefoot delivers great traction and is pretty hard wearing over multiple surfaces.  A Duralon forefoot (nike for blown rubber) enhances cushioning whilst supplying soft, sticky grip.

Conclusion

If you like Nike Stuctures and want another pair - it's perfect! If you want a light innovative support shoe go elsewhere for a new shoe.
