The Adidas Terrex range has always offered great quality, high-tech products and the Speed Ultra is no exception. However, this model comes at a price.
The Terrex range has always delivered and the Speed Ultra is a very good off-road shoe. Comfortable over long distances but not as tough as some more adventurous models from other brands.
The name of this new off-road shoe from adidas conjures up a host of possibilities for its intended use, from trail races to ultra-adventures and it could possible suit everything in between. It’s certainly light enough at just 245g and the rather thin single layer upper helps the shoe to disappear around the foot.
The combination of the Boost midsole cushioning combined with the Lightstrike material makes for a smooth ride that’s soft enough to soak up impact on harder surfaces whilst at the same time offers a nice degree of response for when you want to pick up the pace. It also feels very stable and that helps in the long run, especially on rough surfaces.
The upper has been built with speed in mind and the engineered mesh is cleverly designed to allow for good breathability and drainage as well as protection, with strengthened abrasion-resistant elements that also add to durability.
The Continental rubber outsole is a tried and tested material and offers good traction pretty much anywhere you take it, with the tread pattern being a good balance of grip without feeling too aggressive.
It’s clearly a shoe built with high performance in mind, but that shouldn’t detract from its ability to tackle the trails on a more regular basis.
