Given the price, this is probably the best value shoe in the adidas range right now. Using the same Boost cushioning technology, the shoe is less expensive than the Ultra Boost, but you get loads of Boost cushioning in a more stable, everyday runable shoe.

Our verdict

Comfortable everyday trainer, the Solar Drive uses Boost cushioning technology combined with CM-EVA. Together you get a more stable trainer that's more durable and better value - result!

  • Positive
  • Lots of Boost cushioning
  • Stable cushioning performance
  • Great value
  • Negative
  • none at this price

First impressions

Brand new to the adidas Solar Line, the Solar Drive is a more affordable version of the Solar Glide and it is much cheaper than the Ultra Boost and Ultra Boost PB.

Compared to the Glide, the Drive has a softer Boost midsole and a more traditional mesh upper.

If you go through shoes quickly and don't need all the fancy bells and whistles, add the Solar Drive to your collection.

Midsole

Boost midsole combined with a layer of CM-EVA, we think it actially performs better than Boost alone. It's more stable and feels better balanced.

Upper

The engineered mesh upper is simple yet effective. Obviously kept simple to keep the price down but its comfortable, durable and looks ok.

Sole

No Continental rubber here, but that's ok, at this price we can forgive that, especially as this sole is good enough. It offers perfectly acceptable traction and durability.

Conclusion

One of the best value shoes around right now from adidas or indeed any brand. At this price and given that you get all that Boost cushioning at a fraction of the price of the range topping shoe, this is a no brainer for those wanting to try the responsive Boost feel for the first time.

It's well made and offers a very serious proposition for those seeking an everyday, high mileage shoe.
