Neil Black sadly found dead
Neil Black, ex Head of Performance at UK Athletics found dead
We are saddened to announce that the ex Head of Performance at UK Athletics, Neil Black was found dead over the weekend.
Neil was known to us at Shoeguide, in fact he was a personal friend and physio to me during the 1980’s. He was as superb physiotherapist who treated many of the UK’s best athletes and he had an unrivalled reputation. Everyone liked and respected Neil and it was probably this fact that helped secure his position at UKA. He was friendly with many of the athletes and was always available to offer calm and reasoned advice.
He was, of course, the personal physio to Mo Farah. Having largely given up his physiotherapy role, he remained Mo’s therapist until his death.
Neil became embroiled in the UKA / Salazar / Farah scandal and parted ways with UKA in October 2019. It certainly muddied his reputation and perhaps it was his deep friendship and commitment to Mo that might not have done him any favours when the facts started to unravel. He never turned his back on Mo and has always supported him.
We say thank you for the memories, Neil. RIP.
